You're in a room, at work, at home, in class, at the bar, and you hear the ring. Check your phone, it's not yours. (Some people use ringtones, beeps, or vibration mode. I just have an old school ring.) You look around and there goes someone, checking their caller ID, waiting a split second to decide if they want to pick up, then, as usual, picking up.
"Hello?"
And what are we left with? That nagging feeling of who in the hell they are talking to? I'm not a nosy person generally, but why are they taking a call and who is it? Can't very well ask, "who's that?" That's annoying.
In conclusion, where to look for today's anxiety: Pay attention to other people's phones. It's a real doozie.
